if that doesn't work, follow what up with the "no spikka da inglese" equivalent in Finnish, which is somewhere in between what you've been doing and trying to pronounce "I don't speak Finnish" correctly. or, if they keep talking, just start saying "what?" in Finnish and smiling, no matter what they say. Your instinct to avoid letting them know you speak any language fluently is a good idea-- despite what they might think of you. Lithuanian would be the kindest interpretation they can put on it!

*snort* Last year these little old Jehovah's ladies kept coming over to the Old Batcave because Lex kept being nice to them, until eventually I got tired of it and told them we weren't interested.

I try to be nice too, but Jehovah's Witnesses really get on my nerves. Their faith is cult-like and non-believing family members are often ostracized completely, if they can't be converted. Plus they have many conservative or downright harmful beliefs. They also practice lame types of civil disobedience and most of them tend to think they're way better than everybody else. >:(

Excellent idea! Don't forget that when they tell you your soul is going to hell, cheerfully inform/remind them Jews don't believe in hell. That usually trips them up.
