i wondered why the last couple of days i have felt like i never truly woke up all the way - slightly under the weather and slightly groggy, like the inside of my brain was a little fogged over between the synapses. i realised, eventually (through the fog) that i am not sick but simply recovering from our holiday dose of family togetherness, which was delightful, but stressful to an introvert like me. i don't like much in the way of excitement, and i always need a proportional amount of time insulated from the world at home in my armchair, with blankets and hooked up to lj and aim and a steady supply of fanfiction. the family togetherness was of extra intensity and duration and the anxiety on this trip was especially high, so the recovery is taking longer. at this point it lacks only a certain quantity of mindless tv consumption (where to start?).

wax and i gave mece (my elder brother-outlaw, and the father of carmela) a boardgame called SAMURAI, because he is quite into samurai movies and samurai swords and things like that. well, he and his wife are into board games, and last night i went over to try it out with them.

something you have to understand about me is that i am horrible at strategising. i hate it, but i'm also naturally bad at it. as soon as a game flirts with the idea of involving strategy, i lose at it, even if i have not in fact started playing it yet. (i like board games, but i prefer fast-paced and light-hearted ones usually, and ones which depend more on skill or random chance. i adore pictionary because i'm good at it, and am also very fond of sorry, a revenant of high school pe classes.)

SAMURAI involves a lot of strategy. it is an EVIL game. it's like the twisted offspring of the time go and chess got really drunk and intimate in a dark alley, and then ran into risk on the way up to the hotel room and invited it in on their night of debauchery. and it is somehow more obnoxious than go or chess or risk, although on the plus side it's played on a map of japan and involves wee buddha figures and also mini japanese folding screens for each player. enough strategy was involved to make my head hurt a little and also to let everyone get bored while the others thought over their moves.

and now for something completely different... arashi daily occasionally.

[livejournal.com profile] aeslis: oh man! aiba straddling--well i'd imagine someone else.
cim: i got a cap, don't worry. XD
[livejournal.com profile] aeslis: *imagines that's Jun there*.

cim: *_*
[livejournal.com profile] aeslis: And Aiba's hips sink down a little lower, and a little lower...
[livejournal.com profile] aeslis: part of his cunning plan!
cim: nyrrrggghfafölfdö*_*
cim: omg, i love aiba having plans.
[livejournal.com profile] aeslis: until he's gingerly sitting on top of Jun, and his voice is very low but doesn't give anything away, really, it just suits the mood of the massage, and he says: How does it feel, Jun?
cim: DIABOLICAL!
[livejournal.com profile] aeslis: naturally :D
cim: poor jun! he doesn't like to show any weakness! he likes to sound collected, when he's feeling like a puddle of liquid connected to a couple of overstimulated nerve endings.
[livejournal.com profile] aeslis: So yes, he tries valiantly to sound cool about it all, but halfway through saying, "Really good," his voice cracks embarrassingly and he has to clear his throat--just as if perhaps he got a cough--maybe he can fool Aiba, yeah, into thinking that.
[livejournal.com profile] aeslis: But he can't see Aiba's smile. :3
cim: if he were looking, aiba would control his expression more, i'm sure. ♥
[livejournal.com profile] aeslis: he certainly would.
cim: it's both predatory enough to startle and tender enough to confuse. aiba is enjoying have jun be putty in his hands, but he's also totally a slut. he's not breathless or robbed of the power of speech, but he's totally turned on.
cim: aiba's quiet gentle voice *_*
[livejournal.com profile] aeslis: yes.  yes he is.  and then he--hm.  well perhaps Jun is wearing track pants, or something of the sort--Aiba made sure he was in comfortable clothes first, since jeans are not comfortable, and after he turns Jun to liquid happy he starts working his way down to massage Jun's ass, because well, that's a muscle too, right?
cim: jun is way past the point of being able to act - which he's not that good at anyway. XD he can't produce a fake laugh at all to pass the embarrassment off even, all he can manage is to not moan out loud a lot.
[livejournal.com profile] aeslis: By biting his lip perhaps a little forcefully.  But he's not protesting, so Aiba makes full use of his advantage, manhandling him just like he wants to.
cim: not just like he wants to. yet.
cim: but he's pushing or perhaps one should say completely demolishing boundaries.
[livejournal.com profile] aeslis: well, as opposed to keeping it clinical and, you know, detached--he's definitely feeling Jun up though.
cim: jun knows normally you should say something but he can't for the life of him even think what - not that he wants to.

well, aiba wasn't sitting on his ass that time. it was like a hand massage and a FACE massage. with eyefucking. XD psychological seduction! whereas this is more, uh, straight-up groping. XD plus this was aes's idea as you can see!

... not that that's not a good point. i hadn't really noticed though. it doesn't seem weird for me for the sexy massage cliché to show up in any number of stories; it's hardly less common in slash than lingering handshakes or watching movies together.

it's just not one that really WORKS for me as a cliche. XD like, i can't just imagine it with anyone, so the times that it works really stick out at unique for me! so like, one story about aiba giving jun a massage = THE story, if that makes sense.

so in other words, the story would have to be more than just massaging for me to feel it had some originality, even if it were totally hot, just because of my internal biases? (but i guess if it were in the genius!aiba universe, it would have other stuff going on, too. so.)

well, that wasn't really a story, more like an... extended picture caption...

but i think the fact that the cliché is so well established in the general literary canon gives it plenty of respectability to continue and proliferate regardless of my personal experience of massages. just like i can believe that football is appealing by the fact that millions of people are mad about it when i do not see the appeal myself, i think you can take it as given that it is probable for any given person to find massage potentially sexy, for obvious reasons like physical pleasure, warmth, lots of body-contact, probable partial nakedness...

is it so well-established? i'm merely curious, i have not real conversational knowledge of romantic or sexy cliches beyond bad yaoi comics.

it's fairly well-established outside the romance genre, like in mainstream television... pop culture... i mean... i can't imagine how anyone could be ignorant of it.

i was probably more aware of it as a child and have forgotten about it since? ahahah, cim. "i can't imagine how anyone could be ignorant of it." pretty easily, actually! i mean, i don't actually remember the last time i saw or read about the "massage cliche" before your fic.
