cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (chillin)

This past weekend was my first-ever visit to the UK and was spent at the wedding of the incomparable [livejournal.com profile] bexless and [livejournal.com profile] omniguy. While there I acquired some sort of respiratory infection, so an actual post on the subject will follow later, but for now I will just dedicate a special edition of my regularly scheduled shoe post to the event!

First of all, we have the bride's shoes: Vivienne Westwood Anglomania + Melissa "Lady Dragon", the molded plastic slingback peeptoe heels with the big hearts on, in periwinkle with red hearts ♥_♥. I could not have chosen any other or better pair of shoes for her myself (which, for me, is saying something)!

(Also, to my everlasting pride, Bex was inspired by an earlier shoe post of mine to purchase for her legal ceremony these gorgeous Iron Fist "Ruby Slipper"s. I'm quite disappointed I didn't get to see them on her feet.)

I styled my boo [personal profile] waxjism in a tuxedo-inspired look that was nearly exactly what I had originally conceived of for her before we did the shopping, with the exception that I never got to buy her a bow tie, so her look was clean black and white, while mine was a shimmery forest green tulip-skirted dress in a combination of velvety and satiny substances. With an unlimited shoe budget, I would have added to the green dress and matching sparkly green tights for any formal occasion Bordello's "Damsel" booties in black velvet; but, given the wedding was non-tradish and it was a bit chilly, I think in this particular instance I'd have been best served by these specialty Doc Martens 1460s from last season, 8-eye black leather in gold glitter flocking (aka "I think Adam Lambert left his Docs here!").

However, not having 100+ euros for wedding shoes, I was very happy with the effect of my Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars in Sangria, a seasonal color from last fall bought by my parents for me to wear to my own [courthouse] wedding last year. [personal profile] waxjism wore my beloved Marimekko Omena ("Apple") sneakers, whose little dots of red gave just the right touch to her black and white outfit (those were a seasonal product summer 2009).

Now, given that this wedding was [personal profile] bexless's, obviously there were other shoes of note in attendance. The unquestioned winners of the evening were the gorgeous Iron Fist "Muerte Punk" sported by a tall and buxom auburn-haired beauty who looked remarkably like my bff [personal profile] perhael. She paired them with a cobalt satin dress, a purple lace shawl, and two crystals in the outer corner of each eye to stunning effect. But Hush Puppies "Philippa", a lovely cream mary jane in a gentle pastel floral print, ran them a close second. Their owner looked great, but the rest of her outfit didn't support the shoes quite as brilliantly as in the blue-and-purple case.

I can't fail here to mention the fangirls. [profile] olivia_circe and [livejournal.com profile] sunsetmog drew every eye in the room in full-skirted olive and red polka-dotted satin respectively, and their shoes coordinated perfectly. (With show-stopping dresses like these, it's impossible for the shoes to take center stage, but the shoes were great: you never go wrong with patent!) [livejournal.com profile] yan_tan_tether was wearing a vivid tropical-colored floral dress and MJs with a lovely bow tie. Her gorgeous other half, [livejournal.com profile] _emeraldgreen (in an AMAZING punk hairdo and WOW magenta eyemakeup), had a tiny skull-patterned blouse tucked into an actualfax black leather pencil skirt with kitten-heeled black pumps spattered across the toes with neon pink stars ★★★★★! [personal profile] lately was statuesque in deeply flattering dusty blue satin and elegant late-90s style ankle-strap heels and [livejournal.com profile] sandwich_armada was wearing the cutest strapless black-on-cream toile dress with mouth-wateringly sophisticated pink-champagne satin peep-toe pumps. [personal profile] calathea's shoes were floral sandals that I am distressed to realize I did not get a better look at, and thus cannot describe fully. :( And last but by no means least there were our hostesses, the diminutive yet powerfully adorable [personal profile] jamjar, classy in draped lavender-gray eyelet, lace tights, and gray heeled oxfords; and, of course, the maid of honor, [personal profile] birdsflying, in her wedding-party gray silk and - a touch of genius - Irregular Choice's "Tape Measure" pumps in the kitten-heel version.
