I concur! I spent a year and a half in Amherst Massachussetts for college. I hated Amherst College, but I really wished I'd gone to an all-girls school, and the town itself was great. My dad's step-cousin lived there, and she took me under her wing - regular babysitting, and she was a die-hard contradancer and would drive me to gatherings in nearby Greenfield once or twice per weekend if I could go. Sadly I was having a nervous breakdown at the time, as well as hemorrhaging weight thanks to side-effects of non-functional anti-depressants, so I wasn't able to appreciate it all quite as thoroughly as I would have liked.

But nobody in my family wanted to live in Alabama, really. It was just that my dad had a great job that exactly suited his nerdy little scientist soul and also had extraordinarily good benefits/hours for the field, and my mom didn't really have the heart to force him to give it up for one that would suit him less somewhere else. :/
