SO bearing in mind that we still don't have a washing machine, or space to unpack our stuff, or any specific eta on when we get the estate inventory and can finally at least do SOMETHING, today the oven just simply did not get hot!

I don't say it didn't turn on, because the lights and the burners are working just fine. This is a pretty much brand-new ceramic-topped oven that MIL bought in... June I think, so at least it's under warranty, but there's a bunch of uncooked chicken and vegetables in the oven right now and a pot of plain rice with nothing to go on it on the stove and we need dinner! Normally in a dinner emergency we would have pizza, but the oven doesn't work and we'd end up with a bunch of leftover plain rice.

I guess we're gonna fry the stuff in the wok but AHHHRGH can we just get a fucking break?

Basically yes! I'm not surprised by things going wrong except inasmuch as it didn't occur to me that the essentially brand new oven was one of those things... I've never even had an oven stop working on me before if a blown fuse wasn't involved and I've worked with multiple ovens that were decades old!

I have thought often in the past months of my great-aunt who, according to family lore, had a nervous breakdown which my Mom described to me when I asked "Mommy, what's a nervous breakdown?" as "She locked herself in the closet and screamed for hours".
