knitting projects

The two original lavender ones did not become soft enough to wear with conditioning, but I guess they can count as practice. I've made two since then that are nice and wearable, but in both cases the bottom ribbing is a little too narrow, I think. Making it longer would quash the tendency to ride up.



My ring splints arrived today, which was incredibly fast, and I've already tried them out for an hour or so! They work pretty well, and it's a very good thing they are designed in a figure-8 wrapped design that makes them adjustable because I have a feeling a standard one would never fit. I have very large knuckles in comparison to the finger, and the thumb is particularly severe. It's no problem at all for this design though.

Those look really cool! (Both the projects and the splints. I'm really glad they help, losing use of your hands is the worst.)

The way those four pics lined up on my screen, I thought the scale was the same on all four of them and that you were knitting tanks so tiny that you'd have to use toothpicks for needles.

OMG, but did you know there's a lady who does that? She knitted the stuff for Coraline. She uses straight pins.

I haven't been losing them except to knit - most things that I do it never even comes up. Knitting and crochet, really - you can get soreness in these joints from pressure from handling a pen or paintbrush too, but it's easier to shift your grip there and I've never had the thumb and finger joint hurt before the hand was cramping enough to make me stop anyway. I do fear arthritis in old age though, even though it hasn't happened to anyone in my dad's family yet (and that's where my hands mostly come from) - I type and knit more than them, probably, and apparently it's an elevated risk with hypermobile finger joints. The fact that my fingers and toes pop all the time is also supposed to be an Ominous Sign. And of course arthritis would be worse than just hampering me from knitting since I guess then they would hurt all the time. 😬

That yarn has been my favorite to work with so far; the little neon splashes made it fun to watch just as it flowed by into the garment. Definitely got to get some more of that kind.
