The last time I mentioned Anubis, who went back to the breeders a few weeks ago, was in reference to him getting a hormone-suppressing implant, intended to last about a year. Unfortunately it hasn't taken effect yet, or at least it hadn't a few days ago the last I checked in, and the breeders have a new neighbor who has made repeated noise complaints about Anubis (because he was yelling all day every day due to being locked in the bathroom, where he had to be because if you let him out, he pees on literally everything) and is trying to get them evicted. It sounds like he is being overly harsh to me, since they're trying to stop the noise; but at base this is a reasonable complaint. As a result they have to try to find Anubis a new foster home as soon as possible, and ultimately this means we won't be able to try again to see if he can fit in at our place. This was hard to hear even though we already thought it was extremely unlikely to work out.
And in the meantime Anubis is still suffering and still locked up because the hormones are still hormoning. It's extremely upsetting, but we can't do anything so I'm trying not to think about it. (Seeing how much Tristana has blossomed since his departure has really rubbed in how subdued and cramped she was during the cat divorce and all that stress. It feels like it would've been really cruel to her to reintroduce him, apart from all the other considerations.)
II. Tristana
First of all, all the cat pictures are her for now.
Tristana has blossomed in several ways since becoming an only cat. She used to be almost completely silent, speaking only when she was on the other side of a closed door that she wanted open, but she has become extremely talkative and she has a HILARIOUS little voice. (All attempts to get audio recording have so far failed, butwaxjism thinks she sounds like a cartoon. Not a stereotypical cartoon cat, though.) She has started zooming around and playing by herself, chirping and yelling while she plays, talking to us just to make conversation, greeting us verbally when she comes into a room, and yelling "WHERE IS EVERYBODY?" multiple times a day (she keeps it up until we both yell back to her - finding just one of us doesn't satisfy her). You could also say she's become a lot more clingy, but it's hard to say if she's abnormally clingy or not because she was always so extremely bonded to Snookums. That is, she might be exactly as reluctant to be by herself as before, but just transfering all the attachment to Snookums onto us. She was basically glued to him, after all.
III. Sipuli
I mentioned Sipuli, Tristana's foster mother, in my last cat post. She is a couple of years older than Tristana, and she was the new young queen (unfixed female cat) and ruler of the roost when Tristana and her litter were born. Because she was extremely bonded to one of the breeders, the one who had to move into their guest room in order to wake up every two hours and bottlefeed Tristana in her first couple of weeks of life, she ended up very bonded to Tristana as well. Sipuli had never been pregnant yet at the time, but she even tried to nurse Tristana. (Tristana was the runt of the litter and didn't gain any weight for a few weeks, which was why she had to be bottle fed.) After we took Tristana home, Sipuli had complications from a miscarriage and had to be sterilized as a further pregnancy would have been too dangerous. Unfortunately, the breeder whose baby Sipuli is also is the one who is obsessed with sighthounds, so the whippet puppy is also her baby. And the whippet puppy is not dangerous or bad with cats, but out of all their cats, Sipuli is the only one who is afraid of it. She's highly stressed by sharing the house with the dog.
Sipuli is bigger than Tristana, but she's still petite for a Cornish rex. And like Tristana, she has a cautious and retiring, fraidy-cat sort of personality. So even though we can't count on them remembering or recognizing each other after three years, the hope is that their personalities might be well suited if they can get along. So we're going to pick her up this coming Saturday.
She is a tabby seal point Cornish rex. Here are a couple of pictures of her from the breeders. Like Anubis, she is generally considered a knockout, supermodel-level beauty in Cornish rex cat-judging terms.
