Phantom fried onion

I totally thought the Ukrainian neighbors on the other side of the party wall were cooking something with fried onions, and I asked Wax and she couldn't smell anything.

I have heard of hallucinating smells... but fried onions?

TBH I can still kind of smell it, but it's faint now. Maybe there's some fried onion like, molecules embedded in the sweater I'm wearing...

Smells are so weird. Our brain can create them and hang on to them too.

At least it was something pleasant and foodlike! Not a bad smell!

That's true, and anybody with pets has experienced a faint smell of pee or poop that you don't know if you're imagining because you actually cleaned it all up, or really smelling because you missed a molecule.
