speaking of carry-on, do you think they'll let me take a teddy bear loose onto the plane?

I can't imagine why you wouldn't be allowed to as long as they X-ray it first. When my family went to Florida, I was allowed to bring my stuffed dog on the plane - granted, that was 1987... ye gods, I'm old!

From much post-9/11 flying experience: as long as the bear is not armed, yes. Though I would hesitate to bring along any bear with a growler, voice box, etc., as there's the chance he would get hacked open with a big knife.
