recently, in her methodist after-care:

teacher: the symbolism for easter of this rock has to do with the rock that jesus moved from in front of the tomb.
my sister (age 10): but i thought the angel moved the rock?
teacher: well, yes, TECHNICALLY the angel moved the rock, but jesus COULD have if he'd wanted to.

and when jesus parted the red sea--oh, wait. well it SHOULD have been jesus. damn attention-hogging jews. :p

my parents, in an effort to store up as many little glimpses of me as they will need to tide themselves over for two months, dragged me to a flea market today at the county fair grounds. it was crawling with people. many of them were smoking--crowded in with everyone else, and right around the stuff vendors were trying to sell--and my throat was too sore for the ostentatious coughing i usually indulge in around such rude people.

i saved my mom from purchasing a white blouse with strange patterns of black and white appliques by careful whimpering and hiding my face in my dad's shoulder, but neither of us could save her from purchasing an old wooden coffee table whose previous owners' best guess for how to disguise the buckling of varnish was to simply spray paint metallic gold over the whole thing. now it is gold with odd patches of ripply-icky texture underneath--makes my skin crawl nearly as much as the horrific fresh air and piles of sunshine and people. redbuds and azaleas are in bloom, but tomorrow am going back to massachussetts. *kicks massachussetts* also on the downside, missed my opportunity to walk down 9th and a halfth street. gromph.

::looks around in confusion for the dimensional portal::

how is there such a thing as 9 and a half street? what warping of standard numerical practice made this possible?

not even 9 and a half, or nine and a halfth, or ninth and a half (the last of which WOULD be correct): it says, right on the street sign, 9th and a 1/2th street. basically, the streets around my house are a rabbit warren; an overpass got added much, much too late and they put an extra street on the side of it, but in between 9th and 10th. this street is adorable, being curvy and only about half a block long, more like an on or off ramp, only the street it comes from isn't a major thoroughfare and it doesn't even feed directly into said street.

hee!

i <3 my neighborhood, if you get rid of the evil dogs and the old people.
