a strange reaction from a loyal follower, or perhaps i'm very old-fashioned

very blah. unnaturally awake due to nap, hot, uncomfortable, mildly angry, a little bored and a lot nervous, for whatever reason. am over-burdened with plot bunnies. i discovered, however, that perry likes to play tug-of-war even with his new shank bone. more importantly, nothing on earth can make him bite me, although the shrill low-battery beep of the fire alarm (every thirty seconds all day, natch) can build up, after about 9 hours, until he's whining and crying non-stop. i wonder how much of the personality we see in the pets we love, and the special relationships we have with them, are reciprocal and how much are constructed in our heads?
