i saw lisa last night and got the name of her iatrist, finally. he's not freudian at all--the novelty of not telling the story of your childhood! amazing. i suppose monday i make an appointment. my parents have promised to pay.

i went just before [our] dinner--eight--intending to stay only a short while, but she was asleep so she had to wake up, and her cats were so cute and there was so much going on--her husband just got laid off, a friend getting married, the stupid politics at the high school where she teaches, so i didn't end up leaving until 1:30. she cautioned me at some length about driving on the night before several area proms, but the highway was virtually deserted. my [real] sister and her wimpy slumber party were already asleep.

i made a late supper and ate it on the couch and read the first chapter and a half of dune. and dune, boy, is fascinating. the world-building is fascinating, and also a skill that is particularly--not impressive, but--important?--to me. i remembered the name 'harkonnens' but had forgotten where it came from. without containing very much visual detail, the book is infused with images. i haven't picked up again yet, as the day was spent painting and napping.
