i know it's improbable, but
7 Jul 2003 12:26 pmi'm still waiting for someone to write a really good snape/harry fic. i want to be really convinced. i want to sink into the world, and totally buy it, and be satisfied with it after i'm done reading, not going, 'well, it's lovely, but it's a big departure from canon, innit,' or 'the tone's just so.' or 'if only harry were a little more ___.' there's an excellent point to be made about the canon improbability of the pairing. well, at least, there're all these obstacles in the way. but people keep coming so close! it's a genre with such potential! unfortunately, a good one is rather a lot to ask. i'm not even quite sure what one'd have to do to convince me. but i want it, yes, precious, very much.
fred saberhagen, how i <3 thee. he'd better not die without writing another dracula novel. ::rubs temples:: ::refuses to slash saberhagen and zelazny::

realistic HP/SS
Date: 7 Jul 2003 01:47 pm (UTC)Also, two AUs I think are fairly realistic, if only because in both the wizarding world has suffered and Harry and Snape have few other choices outside of each other, are: Clipped Wings (http://www.hogwartsletters.hpg.ig.com.br/stories/clippedwings.html) and Severus and the Crup (http://inkstain.slashcity.net/isf/archive/7/severusand.html). Obviously AUs aren't canon though. Perhaps realistic HP/SS requires an AU though.
I know what you mean about remaining "unconvinced." I often have to suspend my disbelief when reading HP/SS ("Snape's hair wasn't greasy after all, it was just very fine and silky!"). Mostly I have to let go of my internal cynic who informs me every time that rarely do 17-year-olds find 40-or-so-year-olds irresistably hot. I can buy the infatuation from Snape's side though.
