2. they're making a movie, with colin firth (a;slkdjfas;dlf) and scarlett johansson (i looked up pictures and have determined she looks okay for the part), of girl with a pearl earring by tracy chevalier! based on the vermeer painting! ohmigod i LOVE that bleak bittersweet BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL book. subtle, gorgeous... colin firth as the absent-minded professor--all that ust--::PANTS::

Hmm, longish... I think, not counting rereading stuff I've already read a kajillion times, it would be A Bittersweet Potion (http://www.rodentfancy.com/fanfic/bittersweet.shtml)... Oh! and Violation, which you can find on this page (http://www.bishonenworks.com/fanfictionpage.htm), and its sequels. Those were great reads, and though I know you're (probably) not into the fandom, you don't really have to be, they're fabulous stand-alone novels.
