7 Feb 2004 08:47 pmbecause i don't already have enough obsession with nightmares about high school, i read this
The School and Year you graduated?
central high (yes, seriously), class of 2001
Nickname in high school?
i didn't have one.
Sport you were into?
i wasn't, but one of my favorite friends (karti), and my small auxiliary real life best friend (sara munro) were in soccer.
Had a circle of friends?
yes, a kind of elite one, actually, cause i was in the inner seven of the clique which encompassed 16 out of the IB* class of 19.
*international bacchalaureate. like AP, sort of. we took all our classes with each other.
Best subject?
obviously english is what i'm best at, but i made my best grades in history because a) i rock in class discussions and b) i care about politics and c) i was the teacher's favorite.
My favorite class?
history--great discussions, and the teacher was my favorite too.
Worst subject?
for all of high school? algebra ii in tenth grade. just the last two years? ap biology. almost got a b in that one, and worked my ass off.
A teacher you owe life lessons to?
mrs. warren, my 9th-10th grade history teacher, was a BRILLIANT teacher. all kinds of life lessons.
mrs. fiveash--how to bullshit in lit crit. really, really well.
Describe in one word...
Freshman (year 9): uncomfortable
Sophomore (year 10): hopeful
Junior (year 11): excited
Senior (year 12): exhausted
Your best friend was?
guinevere33 has been my RL best friend since 6th grade. in 11th and 12th we had fewer classes together and i got close, variously, to brooke, rachel, and karti.
Worst friend?
meghan. she wasn't THAT bad, but i've always felt she disliked me.
How was the prom?
junior year i went with my japanese exchange student, mayumi, and our mutual friend rashmi, a devout muslim from bangladesh. and when we were there we hooked up with an acquaintance of mine, nkechi (believe it or not, a nigerian princess--nigeria produces a lot of those!), and her sister. and we all danced together until we were sweating and fainting. it was unbeliiiiiieeeevably terrific.
senior prom... not so much. my clique were too conservative, uptight, and upper middle class. i thought it would be more fun with them there. instead they were all dancing with guys (which is something that has given me the heebie-jeebies on every occasion i've come close to it EXCEPT that INCREDIBLY hot dancing threesome with
wax_jism and
devon's hot not-gay roommate tyler (which was more than a year after graduation).
Who were the prom king and queen?
i'm afraid i don't remember.
but my first evah girl crush, this really busty black girl with a beautifully sculpted facial structure much like
wax_jism's, was on the homecoming court all four years in a row.
Any achievements?
mmm. well, i was a valedictorian, but so was everyone in the school with a 4.0 or higher--which ended up being like 15 people out of our graduating class of 500. oh, and i was the president of spanish honor society and art honor society, and i was also in national honor society, and i was a spanish club officer. and then i got into amherst, which was the #1-ranked lib arts school at the time as well as one of the two or three most selective in the nation.
kinda ironic how much i hated it later--worse still when i realized a) i wanted to go mainly because it was hard to get in and b) what i most hated about it was the fact that pretty much everyone there clearly felt the same way.
Were you popular?
no, and because of IB and how isolationist it was, our clique really had nothing to do with the popular kids. no interaction, even.
Best song that reminds you of high school?
god, i can't think of any songs i LIKE that remind me of high school, but two years of radio-listening on the way to school and the way from means a lot of songs remind me of it. the one that's the worst was that Vitamin C song about graduation that came out when i was a junior. makes me want to vomit.
that
