cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (can he type?)

this took me like two hours and i had to cheat for half the quotes. :grump:

1. Pick one dozen movies that are ones that you have special feelings about.
2. Pick a few lines of dialogue that mean something to you.
3. As people guess the film, strike out that entry.
4. If possible, after the film is guessed, explain why that movie made the list.

1. "You're not through!" "Why, with your face and figure you could dig ditches."

2. "Do you have a message for your mother?" "Yes. Tell her... I feel fine."

[livejournal.com profile] allecto got it. star trek iv: the voyage home is a hilarious and light-hearted look back along the tv-series history of my OTP as well as a sappy first time for them, depending how you look at it. that line is the cap of spock's personal epiphany, proof that he's settled back into himself and is fully in touch with his human emotions as well as his vulcan logic. ahhhhh. someday i'm going to write fic during this movie.

3. "You 'n' me, love: peas in a pod."

[livejournal.com profile] restriction got it even though it's a deleted scene, jack to elizabeth, from pirates of the caribbean. it's a solemn, almost chilling moment because it's chillingly true. and that's part of what i love about this particular ot3.

4. "Something's got me." "That's just me." "Who are you?" "Who am I? Who do you think?" "Are you my conscience?"

[livejournal.com profile] hollsk got it: finding nemo, one of my three favorite movies. honestly, how could ANYBODY miss this? gay fish sex r3pr3s3nt!

5. "How's that working out for you?" "What?" "Being clever."

[livejournal.com profile] wild_boys said it: fight club. i particularly like that exchange.

6. "Are we friends, Ben? I wanna believe that we were friends." "We are connected, and that's something no one can take from us."

the manchurian candidate (2004)--[livejournal.com profile] wax_jism. raymond and ben. LOVE.

7. "I do not think you would accept my help, since I am only waiting around to kill you." "That does put a damper on our relationship."

[livejournal.com profile] allecto guessed the princess bridge, but i'll give it to her anyway. in fact the typo was all kinds of fun. um, in my opinion, the friendships between the adventurers are the best part of this movie. i mean, the romance is cute enough but eh. that, and billy crystal. it was a tossup.

8. "Let's count noses." "Okay, one nose, two nose, three noses..." "No no no, I meant people."

9. "I want to be sure we'll have enough." "Enough for what?" "Why, the journey home, of course."

[livejournal.com profile] allecto and [livejournal.com profile] superfluous_emi can share it. LOTR: ROTK. imo, the high point of the frodo/sam thread in that movie is actually early on. i enjoy their dialogue at this stage better than the more dramatic, grimy stuff towards the climax.

10. "Dig this, man. Someone once said: 'to err is human, to forgive is divine.'" "What idiot said that?" "I believe that was God, the greatest mack of all."

huggy bear played by snoop dogg says this in the new stiller/wilson starsky & hutch. points to [livejournal.com profile] wild_boys! and the movie, just... ahh. so cute, so perfect in so many ways, so funny. ♥

11. "I don't kill for pleasure." "You should try it someday. You might get a taste for it."

[livejournal.com profile] mace_m said king arthur. in the end i picked a bit of gawain/galahad/tristan banter instead of the more dramatic, solemn, and naked serious stuff from arthur/lancelot/guinevere because, well, at crunch time i always go for humour over drama.

12. "English, motherfucker. DO. YOU. SPEAK IT?"

said by samuel l jackson in pulp fiction, the second movie in history to make me literally fall on the floor, and the only one to manage through intentionally funny. this line kinda encapsulates my philosophy of life, too. ♥ guessed by [livejournal.com profile] thewayout.

2 is from Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
7 is from The Princess Bridge.
9 is from Lord of the Rings, I *think* from Return of the King but it might be Two Towers.

I feel like I should know more than that, but those are the ones where the movie actually sprang to mind instead of hanging about in the murky recesses of my brain, teasing me without ever letting me remember them.

I am both embarrassed and cracking up.

I'm trying to picture what a princess bridge would look like...

The only one I can guess is 9, Return of the King.
