:warms up wax's computer specifically for the purpose of nosing around after new bits of fic she didn't read last night:

so, wax tells me that while it mostly involves shepherding as opposed to glam rock, there is good to decent dark is rising will/bran out there. what's the downlow?

last night, about when i should have crashed, i opened and poked at my directory of rosencrantz and guildenstern caps. and ended up opening, um, like, a couple hundred of them that i hadn't iconed yet. compulsion is a scary thing! although finally i did go to bed with, gasp, some of them still uncropped.

wax's old version of semagic doesn't show a preview of your userpic. and i want to stare at it. dammit.

i'd say the good to decent stuff is mostly by [livejournal.com profile] ashkitty and [livejournal.com profile] kestrelsan. there have been a few other good fics but i'm crap at bookmarking. if i turn over any links, i'll send them your way.

can we have a moment to laught at my icon? thanks.

yes, kest is probably the best but ash hits my unbridled schmoop kink. can schmoop count as a kink?

and yay! love for my hackjob icon. i must love it too, for i have not yet deleted it.

buuuuuuuuuuuut she's only written one, according to her website. i don't count canadian shack stuff since they're drabbles.

Well, in that case that would probably be the ONE DiR fic I read.
All good, all good.

dammit wax gave me the impression there was a significant fandom, more than just a sneeze of teenie fans and couple of people with one quirky pet project like me, lilah and [livejournal.com profile] wolfsage with the tim/gary...

Hey, don't let me put you off. I just quietly obsess while not actually immersing myself in fandom properly. Bad fangirl, me. Just because I don't read enough, doesn't mean it's not out there.

hahahah.

we were talking about wax's story and i was like, "you know who else likes them? phin." and after she figured out i meant YOU, she was like "oh yeah." and then i said, "she has an icon." so we went and looked at your icons and were like, "it's JOHNNY RHYS-MEYERS." i decided i liked that idea. so i went and tried to make a manip of him (he still has dark hair in your icon) which was, uh, a lot harder than i thought, and resulted among other things in the following conversations:

[livejournal.com profile] hollsk: Hey, what's up?
me: trying to photoshop an albino jonathan rhys-meyers. using hilary duff's hair
her: ...that was definitely on the list of responses i didn't expect to see.

(and)

me: it's a little, um, artistic.
wax: AUGH. HE WANTS TO KILL US!
me: but that's not my fault, he just looks like that! he's glaring at the camera!
wax: maybe you could try again with a source image where he looks a bit less murderous.

well. actually. i tried to manip him some light hair. i'm bad with photoshop now, but i was even worse then. that's the most embarassing thing about that icon to me (and there are quite a few embarassing things).

trying to photoshop an albino jonathan rhys-meyers. using hilary duff's hair

ahahahaha.

AUGH. HE WANTS TO KILL US!

i find it's especially difficult to give someone amber eyes without making them look like a total psycho.

hmm... i'd say i had a lot more trouble with the eyebrows and eyelashes. :shudder: i ended up shrinking it a lot and changing the brightness and contrast in the end just to reduce the detail, hoping they'd look more passable. but it's kind of hard to draw translucent white hair given the way it catches the light and everything.
