cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (k/s no fandom had gone before)

with some caps, naturally.

an ALIEN has given the enterprise 10 minutes before it blows them all up and the bridge crew are understandably upset.

KIRK's pacing takes him to SPOCK, who moves to intercept.

SPOCK, in undertone: Jim--

KIRK paces three steps away and turns.

ALIEN: FOUR MINUTES.

KIRK, continuing to pace, makes it back to SPOCK again. when he turns at SPOCK's side SPOCK falls into step next to him.

KIRK: what's the matter with them out there? they must know we mean them no harm.

SPOCK, still in an undertone, somewhat pained: they're certainly aware by now that we're totally incapable of any.

KIRK, turning to SPOCK: there MUST be something to do--[he glances once feverishly around the bridge] something i've overlooked. [he closes his eyes briefly.]

SPOCK, practically whispering: in chess... [KIRK draws himself up a little and turns to look at SPOCK] when one is outmatched, the game is over. [arms crossed, holding himself stiffly upright, he turns to look at KIRK]

KIRK looks at him for a moment.

SPOCK, softly: checkmate.

KIRK, whose gaze hasn't wavered, in low voice but sharply: is that your best recommendation?

SPOCK [drawing in a sharp breath, starting to shake his head no, then bowing it down. hoarsely and almost inaudibly] i'm s-- [SPOCK breaks off, takes a deep breath, raises his head, uncrosses his arms and assumes parade stance. in a stronger voice, but still pitched only to KIRK] i regret that i can find no other logical alternative.

KIRK turns his face away, then walks on. SPOCK stands apparently impassive and moves to his station.

I'm not a Trekkie, but you'd have to be stupid not to see the chemistry. And we do, um, kind of allegiance to this ship after all <3

and this is the SECOND episode they ever filmed together. i'd never have known it if i didn't look it up. but there's some chemistry in the first one too despite the fact that spock isn't the second officer and they don't have a lot of one-on-one interaction.

I've never seen the original Star Trek in my life, but I adore them already. Aww.

ahhahahahaha. the fun thing about star trek's brand of camp is that it has these little very intense and serious scenes sprinkled in with effects shots like this (http://pics.livejournal.com/cimorene111/pic/0027ft9q). and some dialogue like... well. heh.

That second-to-last screencaps is so gay it steamed up my minitor.

there are gayer shots than that in the episode, although none where they're gazing more intently into one another's eyes and both are captured in the frame. but try the two times in a row that kirk answers spock's page shirtless and stands all sweaty-torsoed in front of the little vid screen...

Actually Bones looks pretty gay for Spock in that shot, too. I can never make up my mind whether I like the obvious romance of Kirk/Spock or the mostlyunrequited! allure of Bones/Spock. But the former usually wins out because Kirk is way sexier than Bones.

i love the relationship between bones and spock but i've never seen it as romantic. but they're really close friends despite the constant bickering and it's just... meep. : sigh : <3 i had a really good bones icon once that i deleted. fortunately, i've now got higher quality screencaps to make a new one from.
