cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (love)

wax's brother came over with his camera and took a bunch of pictures of our flat.

couch pets and one actual pet adorn the couch.

the office area, with wax in her chair and leena in cim's chair.

cim doing battle with the door to the balcony; the dog eating dog food, which he has carried from the kitchen expressly for the purpose of eating on the livingroom carpet.

wide shot of the kitchen.

the bedroom. as wax said, there was supposed to be a bed in here. but there isn't one.

and here is the first. the first batch has all marre's arteestic endeavors like the closeup of catfood bowls. (no really! it's pretty!) but it also has the closeups of the tchotchke shelves which is why i want to

you've gotta admit the catfood bowls are pretty cool.

the foreground of the tchotchke shelf contains the glass votive candles we used for a menorah last chunnukah, when we didn't have mine. behind them from left to right we have my real name written in mayan characters, a handmade present from my beloved frankrike (which is to say frank & enrique, friends of the family) back home; my photo album, with 2-yr-old cim and cim's daddy on the cover; the sparkly green teapot card [livejournal.com profile] kmazzy sent me last year; and a real musgrave dragon greeting card that my mom gave me when i was four.

left to right: my real menorah; me and [livejournal.com profile] kitten_head, taken ca. 2000; baby [livejournal.com profile] wax_jism; she-ra; me and [livejournal.com profile] hollsk at her wedding (with a gary oldman sticker from [livejournal.com profile] perhael propped up in front).

actual video footage of lily forthcoming later.

Wow. I haven't seen a picture of you in a long time. It may be from the back, but it is, in fact, a picture of you.

i'm kind of excited. oh, wax is going to look now and see if she can figure out how to operate it.

you can sleep on the sofa... you'll have to fight the dog off, though. he was allowed free reign with it before and now that we've moved we've bought a dog bed and instituted a 'no dogs on the sofa' rule, but it hasn't completely penetrated his little brain, i don't think.

the crazy is DEATHLY. she's sitting between wax's monitor and the modem shelf with her ass sticking out in the room and her head buried back against the wall. v/ sleepy.

and it's very cosy. it's funny that tiny spaces are too cramped to be cosy but with a bit more space (65 m2)... it's like magic. our bedroom is pretty sad in comparison though. but once we have a bed and can put up posters it will improve, i'm sure. i hope.

would you believe we don't own kill bill OR pulp fiction? and neither of us is into uma enough for a complete-works-collecting kind of frenzy. but i guess we are both of the opinion that tarantino+uma = unquestionable coolness.

ahhahahah. i'm a big ikea fan too. i keep just reading the catalog (wax: haven't you already read that like--twenty times? me: but i'm looking at COFFEE TABLES this time!).

the cats love ivar too. the open ends mean the bookshelves are one giant kitty jungle gym. little ear tips are frequently to be seen above the top of a line of paperbacks.

heeee, wax had to explain to me which specific things about it are scandinavian, but after the crash course i realised that i had actually known it all along.

i wasn't fond of the unfinished pine look when i moved here--my parents' house in alabama has a lot of wood, mostly stained, and i've got a strong preference for dark. but it's grown on me and now i love it and am all in favour of using unfinished pine all over. i want pine chairs and table in the kitchen, pine in the bedroom! the only 'scandinavian' element i'd change is the white walls. i loathe white walls.

:) thanks. i'm really happy with it now--i was happy to move before, and excited about the new space, but it wasn't ideal by any means and i didn't have a clear mental image of how our stuff would fit. wax had a genius plan for the layout of the livingroom though, and everything just seemed to fall into place. the livingroom's so lovely it makes me happy to hang out in now.

Some day we'll actually put our stuff up on the walls around here, and then we'll be more or less moved in. I estimate it will be another year until I really feel like we're done, though. We got to functionality and slowed waaaay down, and then there will be the whole office-to-nursery transition. Feh. I wanna have pretty house like YOU!

walls without art on them make me nervous! they're so big and featureless. but it's much easier in flats where you can't drill holes and posters and wallpaper--no paint that will peel if you use tape, no holes in the wall, no tools involved.

Yeah, the problem is that we're at this weird stage in our lives where we've mostly transitioned from prints to original artwork and antiques, so the art we used to have is half-obsolete for the new style, or needs reframing or something, and my husband is a very good but very picky photographer, so he's decided he wants to re-do all the prints of his stuff we used to hang, and we have twice as much wall space now anyway...

Which is to say, we have plenty of art, but he's dragging his heels until he can do it "just so" and so our walls are bare. He's taking a framing class at the local woodworkers' shop - that should help, though we still disagree on what is a priority for framing.

heeee. my mom's an artist but she's more of the compulsive PUT SOMETHING ON THE WALLS variety--and it wasn't until she started trusting my interior design taste that she stopped hanging things where they clashed horribly. my parents' house is a hodgepodge of her paintings and drawings from college, the woodblock prints from her master's show, the woodblocks of her friends (they traded artwork a lot in her department), framed posters and bits of sf art from sf cons, and the framed dustjackets of books she really likes. and wax and i have tons of posters but other than that just a few small photographs in frames.

yeah, i like both kinds of wood too, but they sadly always seem to clash. i can think of theoretical ways they could be gorgeous together, but in practice it's never like that.
