i tried to make rice in the microwave. i thought our dishes were microwave-safe because, well, they've always been in the microwave without doing anything untowards before. but the result this time was a lot of burnt rice and a lot of smoke in the kitchen. i've had to open the windows and shut the door. and also, throw out another bowl. i thought i could prevent it from cracking if i just used some very very hot water to get the rice out. not so. ouch.
and also, ew.
i should have a whole fucking tag for cooking misadventures. at least nothing exploded this time.

Date: 8 Feb 2006 08:51 pm (UTC)If you've never tried it, I highly recommend making popcorn in a pot on the stove. All you need is the corn, oil and flavorings (the Vietnamese standard: melted butter, sugar, salt). It's a bit more clean-up but the difference in taste is OH MY GOD good.

Date: 8 Feb 2006 09:06 pm (UTC)i've never made popcorn in an actual pot. my parents always used a special popcorn popping machine. but personally i've always preferred the fake-butter flavour to real butter, and that's only obtainable with the microwave bags (or in the movie theatre!).

The only reason stuff like this doesn't happen to me is because I never cook. :D I just use the microwave for TV dinners and soup.
