they have hummus at at least one store in helsinki.
someone please, please tell me they know someplace you can get it here in turku?
in other news, the dog is trying to kill me. he went randomly berserk while i was eating red beans and rice, startling me into inhaling a single grain of rice and somehow scratching the inside of my throat with it even though it was soft and well-cooked and the spices got in the little scratch and now i keep coughing and feeling like i'm going to throw up. and... ow.
also, it snowed really hard almost all day today, and after saturday when it did the same thing, there are some pretty impressive high powder drifts out there.

Date: 28 Feb 2006 06:00 pm (UTC)I guess the food department in Stockmann has the most exotic foodstuffs. Or you could try the ethnic grocery stores, there are several of those downtown. I've never been to any of those, though.

Date: 28 Feb 2006 06:06 pm (UTC)as for those thingies, isilya sent me the page (google or something?). maybe it's tahini, which is the main ingredient in hummus. i'd rather not make it myself, but if it was the only way i could get it...

i recommend making your own hummous, but it's only easy if you have a blender.

Date: 28 Feb 2006 08:09 pm (UTC)2 cans of chickpeas, 2-4 garlic cloves, some good salt, a big big spoonful of Tahini (sesame paste), oil. I prefer the neutral kind of olive oil. Don't know how much, I just put some in. Maybe a decilitre to begin with? Sometimes I put vinegar in it too, but ymmv. Oh, and mix it all in a big mixer. :)

Date: 28 Feb 2006 08:37 pm (UTC)I'll keep my eyes open for the tahini. I'm 98% sure the market hall ethnic stores have it.
