20 Jul 2002 02:54 ami doubt i will ever get tired of watching legally blonde.
i do quibble with the lesbian chick. i always bristle at portrayals of lesbianism or feminism that lean that way--that crack about 'semester' being male-biased was pretty funny, but then you have to feel vaguely uncomfortable about laughing, because what they're making fun of are often valid complaints. not 'history,' and not 'woman' (which isn't based on the word 'man' as it's usually considered, i believe--maybe i'll try to find the reference tomorrow), and maybe not even very many of the semantic arguments, but in general--women finding sexism pervading the culture are not, if you know what i mean, finding bogeymen under the bed.
it's not our imagination, okay?
the movie as a whole, of course, isn't guilty of that message.
oh, and also. watched boys don't cry. was painful, but not nearly as painful as watching the documentary about the story it's based on, which i did a few years ago when our church was undergoing one of those small-group session workshops to become a (gblt-)welcoming congregation.
i hate stories where you can't find a good guy, you know? in the movie, the protagonist wasn't so unsympathetic, and the girlfriend was definitely pretty good. in reality, the whole thing, every single person involved, just made my skin crawl, including brandon teena.
ugh.
i'm going to bed, even though i feel like i can't sleep.
