cimorene: painting of a glowering woman pouring a thin stream of glowing green liquid from an enormous bowl (misanthropy)
the ... the pros au story? with the sf and the bonding and stuff? which reminds me more of pern and the other mccaffrey crap than of k/s, incidentally?

...they're getting married.

...

...it's not that exactly; more the *manner* of it. they're, well.

buh?

"'Course. But it's an old Terran custom, isn't it: giving away the bride?"

Bodie laughed out loud. "So which one of us will Asper give away, then?"

"Both of us, of course."

Placing one large hand upon Doyle's thigh, Bodie said, "You're a lunatic, Ray Doyle."

Doyle pressed his leg upward against Bodie's hand. "Must be, to be marrying you." He leaned back and stretched.

someone (she said pitifully), pick my jaw up off the floor for me, would you?

and the story ends with a whimper.

::yawn::

this is an unusually schmoopy genre, but it doesn't spawn the same squealing reaction as, say, ds or tpm.

wonder why.

enjoyable, though. ah, gloriously mediocre mush, how i love thee!

speaking of love, look at my icon. i've never thought of using a texture brush before, but! and! oh, mmmmh yeah. definitely yes. ahhhhhh. -_- + : - ) bliss. ::stares::

this snip of crackfic followed.

THANKS, anne. thanks a LOT. )

i think i dreamt that i was harry potter. only somehow there was also gimli, and the school psychologist, who were trying to help me to kill the presidents (?) of slytherin (male, but not draco) and ravenclaw (female) because they were going to try to kill all of the gryffindors on the quidditch field. there were, like, some secret (and very illegal spells) that would do this.

so, for future reference, try *not* to mix hp and lotr in your head, mmkay? speaking of which, i'm going to go browse [livejournal.com profile] silviakundera's recs page. perhaps i can find some marcus/oliver. oliver! <3 his adorable accent. ::stretch, yawn::

did i mention that my relatives can all go crawl down a hole somewhere? well. they can. thank you.

oh, and! i *also* dreamed i was going to visit [livejournal.com profile] hollsk. it was somehow possible to walk from massachusetts to toronto via, like, a very large mall which led to a sort of subway system. but the subway ride was very short, nothing like five hours. it was just a hop skip and jump away. but the great part was that i wasn't visiting so much as practicing visiting. i just wanted to make sure that i *could* get to toronto, you see, and then i turned back around and went home, satisfied. i was going to return in a week or so, with a stuffed animal for the baby. also, i was trying to decide on food to buy because i was hungry but the subway station/mallish place was full of these food joints that had all exactly the wrong sorts of food, so i stayed hungry.

ohhh, nice. flint wood. ::hmmmmmmmmmms happily::

although really, we don't know enough about marcus flint to know for certain he's going to become a death eater. they don't have quite that aura of sickening inevitability about them--from canon. perhaps it's just fun to play with. it doesn't bother me too much, as yet, mostly because someone (v, sil?) has provided me with sufficient happy endingness to guarantee my continued attention.

but as a whole, this genre is awfully morose. tralala.

and my baby cousin perrin, 20 months, looks like i did at around that age, except he's quite a bit chubbier. well, blonder too. but the resemblance is striking, especially the eyes and cheeks and those cherubic little curls.

my family are out on the front porch, on the swing. which means immediately outside my window, which means i can hear them babbling happily and idiotically along. ::glower::

i think i shall content myself with lust.

cleavage icon it is!

[edit: now they're singing 'dear henry and dear liza.' or 'there's a hole in the bucket,' whatever it's called. someone save me. ::looks at the cupcake::]

what do you say to stuffing myself with an entire 11 oz bag of salt and vinegar lay's potato chips?

i'm feeling reckless.

reading a media-based fandom extensively before you see the media (show, in this case) in question is always a bit odd. from the overlapping bits of the stories, you start to build a picture of canon before you see it, and it's never exact, but comes astoundingly close. i'm beginning to become irritated with 'off' characterizations in these pros fics and i've not seen so much as a clip of the show.

i did this with star trek and due south most notably, but i've read fair quantities of smallville and highlander and bits and snips of sentinel, too.

i just wonder what sort of processes are underway in my brain, conscious and otherwise, that fill in the characterizations with, you know, the, er, silhouette of best fit. i almost feel i could write it without ever watching (no, i've never done that). and i find myself cheering the authors on when they hit on important issues (yes, yes! like that) and then collapsing in disgust when they *just* miss, or skim over them on to other things.

and you may get sick of romance plots without external action (admittedly stupid in a seekrit agent show like the pros), but there must be a *balance*. the romance shouldn't feel like window dressing. if it wasn't necessary, it shouldn't be there. it's not supposed to be just that they happen to fall in love *while* something's happening; this is the literary world, and nothing means *nothing.* you have to draw ties between them--though they shouldn't be too terribly visible. and even if you're not that skilled you could at *least* work it so the resolutions of tension in both plotlines ... culminated properly. didn't leave you feeling bored or impatient, anywhere.

i have to give this pamela chick one thing, though: she's good at the schmoop. this whole genre swims in it. dare i say, as much as tpm? ::slants evil glance at [livejournal.com profile] cara_chapel::

so i'm getting up at four am. this is why i think i shall go to bed. soon. yeah. need to pack up the laptop, blah blah blah. meh. well, on the plus side, the flight leaves way early; i should be back in massachusetts in the afternoon sometime--early enough for dinner, i hope, cause i'll be quite hungry by then.

my mommy is driving me to the airport because she wanted to, to spend time with me. how cute is that?

everyone go bow to [livejournal.com profile] cara_chapel or something. she doesn't seem to believe me when i tell her how cool she is. i'll show you, missy!

everyone who thinks elements or l'histoire d'obi is the defining work of qui/obi, raise your hands! thank you. i was asking for recs a few months ago and like three of you recced her to me. ::sniff:: ::grabs cara, wrestles her down, superglues on a tiara::
