25 Feb 2003 11:31 am::soft whine:: the dog won't follow me. i hold the door open and call him and he just looks up and then lies down again. he'd rather lie in a sunbeam in the livingroom than on the cold carpet in lillian's bedroom, all right, but what if i URGENTLY NEEDED HIM? (he'd probably sense it, the little bugger, and THEN he'd come looking all innocent.) how does one interact with a horse? where would a sense of understanding come from, spurious or otherwise? horses can be affectionate and are quite intelligent, but it's not like, say, dogs, who become slavishly devoted to one person, and seek them like a parent for comfort and food and, well, everything--horses are sleek and elegant, but they're not adorable like cats and dogs and lots of other domesticated pets. where's the instinct they tug on?
