beta appreciation day
15 Oct 2003 02:59 ammy beta, k'sal, is an amazingly insightful writer/critic/analyst whom i love beyond all expression. she fixes my stories, pats me sternly and gently as needed, gives fabulous advice, and chats about all sorts of good things. i would be completely and utterly lost without her. i've just finished what i hope will be the second-to-final draft of the kirk/spock story i've been working on since march, 'a logical organ.' and if i'm really lucky in the same week i'll get to upload a charming, adorable, brilliant, hilarious new story from her called 'incident report.' everyone who has not already should read and love her debut fic, in check (pg, kirk/spock, star trek).
comparisons are odious
15 Oct 2003 01:26 pmi'm hungry, but someone has prepared food that smells thoroughly disgusting. blah.
also, i checked out a wip that was posted at
snape_potter. it sucked in that subtle way where it takes you a headache-inducing 10 minutes of reading to figure out just how bad it is. just a warning to anyone else who might have been tempted. weird misspellings and word misuses made me wonder if i was dealing with a non-native speaker. plus just bad writing with overly fancy sentence structures thrown in for horror.
i dreamt i was running all through a giant grocery store complex trying to buy candy on an urgent mission, and then driving with some kind of twitchy disability, and trying to get to my grandfather's house alive. it wasn't his real house, just a house which in the dream he inhabited.

as i read this story, i find sloppiness that k'sal would never have allowed me to get away with. i wonder if that means i would be a good enough beta to do it myself?
i can't seem to get my ducks in order to [re-]write [the crucial scene of 'a logical organ']. perhaps another nap. i'm guessing re-reading destina's qui/obi slash is not the correct path, anyway. ::sigh:: i think i should nap, yes. it's hot in here. damn daddy and his becoming-coldness.
did i mention mom is planning to get me a car? edit: she is planning to trade in our minivan for two small gas-efficient cars, one for her and one for me, which we will use for running errands and getting about. she feels i will need one, esp. as i am mostly doing errands she wants to be done. of course it will REALLY be hers. when i leave and all.

star wars rec
15 Oct 2003 11:40 pmdon't you ever knock. what kind of a pseudonym is 'emila-wan kenobi'? ::sigh:: but the story is surprisingly good, for a somewhat overly sweet first-time pwp. i think the trick is in the anger and angst immediately before.
oh. and it's short.
and here's a piece very derivative of star trek pon farr stories, a bend in the road, same author, also angsty first time pwp, but heavier on the angst.
and here's another i liked, same author, no sex, claims to be pre-slash but lies. stark raving.
