a random jay/silent bob ficlet by [livejournal.com profile] ninglor is bethany's pov post-dogma. and cute, charming, a little sweeter than i had expected.

a ray k/fraser due south ficlet by [livejournal.com profile] pearl_o is smutty, and really hot, and involves an alley. and it's sort of sweet too.

tira nog's the bough that breaks is also fraser/ray k. it switches pov and is longish, and it's a very insightful, very delicate character study for both of them and for the dynamics of their relationship. this writer is extremely talented. the drawback is an extra-long section of smut at the end (sexion, hahah) that gets a little wearing.

thanks to [livejournal.com profile] perhael (and i'm not sure whether i'm grateful for this or not) and a discussion of The Wife Issue, i've now got *another* tim/gary bunny, which i'm hoping to keep rather under-nourished (at least until i write the damned remix fic!).

i'm thinking:

+what if whatever-it-was had happened back on the set of r&gad or meantime--before either one of them fell in with a wife? you know. might-have-beens. if you're already involved with someone, and you meet someone you find attractive and really interesting, you sometimes have that 'in another world--if it hadn't happened with her... it could have happened with him...' feeling. y'know?

+tim roth has *exceedingly* nice biceps embellished with tattoos. his upper body is an eloquent illustration of the word 'virile.' and he dresses well to accent that. i have a picture of him looking like a dirty rentboy. i'd share it with you but i'm not sure what happened to it.

thanks to [livejournal.com profile] jennaria i've been reading some sizeable gobs of labyrinth fanfiction over the last few days. since it's het, the good end of it still has a tendency to slide into harlequin territory (though usually better executed).

i still haven't found anything worth a rec.

but i've realized what it was that was tickling my consciousness the last time i saw it. besides the sort of anglo-saxon, tam lin type mythology about the realm of faerie, there's a definite *strong* resonance with beauty and the beast and east of the sun, west of the moon (fairy tale and folktale) and the classical descent myths of psyche and eros and hades and persephone. these are all variants of the same story, specialized versions of the descent myth (which takes its name from the persephone version). and this myth, and this constellation of stories, have captured my imagination for more than a decade. they are, in my opinion, the most powerful archetypes in literature.

i'm still struggling with how to do persephone justice with an original novel, in fact.
