perrin: dawhy we can't throw other people's belongings on the floor.
me: well, because we have to respect other people's belongings because we want them to respect OUR belongings.
perrin: dawhy we want them to respect OUR belongings.
me: because if they didn't respect our belongings they might damage our belongings and then we would be sad.
perrin: dawhy then we would be so sad if they damaged our belongings.
me: because we like our belongings?
perrin: dawhy we like our belongings.
me: do you know what our belongings are?
perrin: dawhat our belongings are.
me: they're the things that are ours--that belong to us.
perrin: [pause] dawhy we have to clean up after ourselves when we eat.
me: because then there would be a big mess.
perrin: [pause] dawhy it's not good to live in fear.
me: uh...
perrin: a dry downwash poopy! a big spray bottle spraying poopy! a sewing machine CUTTING poopy! hahahahah!

one minute i was reading chapter five of economics and thinking something along the lines of, 'a price elasticity of demand between zero and negative one maximes profits, but an income price elasticity of demand anywhere below one is a 'necessity,' because people have to buy it regardless of income.'

and then a minute later i realized i was trying to figure out if the dookyweb cartoon avatar generator could be used to make a credible maleficent.*

*no, but i did manage a pretty good one with photoshop tinkering. also a nice vulcan!cim. )

i lied about price elasticity of demand before. demand is elastic at less than -1, unit-elastic at -1, and inelastic between -1 and 0. there is no such thing as positive elasticity of demand, because the slope of a demand line is always negative--it declines as prices rise.

perrin calls bits of orange peel 'galishas' (guh-LEE-shuhs). and he considers making them a fun activity in and of itself. he'll be sorry that i ate my last mandarin a moment ago while he was gone.
