annotated scenelet from "dagger of the mind", 1x11

this episode wants us to think it's deep, so it has a Very Serious Closer.  first of all you have to understand that during the episode ( kirk was tortured in the Chair of Hypnotic Suggestion )

which works by calming you down, and then emptying your brain completely so that you're so eager for some company you'll do whatever someone tells you if they speak into the ( little microphone. )

(it only causes pain at the higher settings).  while they were busy grabbing control of the hospital, kirk's torturer fell into the chair while it was turned on at full, and nobody remembered to come and save him until he was already Dead, Jim.  but there wasn't a mark on him!  he died from the existential pain of his brain being so Empty!

and this has nothing to do with kirk or spock, but this episode has one of my favourite guest stars.  she looks like jennifer garner and plays a spunky psychologist who keeps arguing with kirk.
