so if wax gets the time off, she and i will be in paris june 15-20 (and munich june 20-23) with my parents.  fingers crossed!  i've never been to any of europe except finland, at least not outside the airports.  (i've hoped for a layover in paris or london, cause even the airports would be cool, but SAS's main hubs are copenhagen and stockholm, alas.)

and wax's computer broke last night.  all the network ports are fried and she's going to need a new motherboard.  and some other stuff.  of course she's already a bit broke cause of the convergence of bills in this month and the stylish leather jacket and we borrowed yet more money from my parents.

i've always rather enjoyed this episode, and there are a couple of significant things about it. for one thing, they ripped the plot off wholesale for star trek: the motion picture, which is pretty damned shameless. for another thing, i am just extra fond of plots about how humans are better than machines, and especially endings where they defeat a machine by proving that it's illogical.

if only that worked on actual software, you know what i'm saying? anyway, this recap is pretty thorough (lots of images!), but it's a mixture of real bits, summaries, and stuff that i made up.

i made orange chocolate chip muffins, which are a maträtt i became addicted to in my stint at amherst college.  i found a recipe using google, which is what i've been doing most of the time when i wanted a recipe (in general as opposed to one of my mom's signatures).  so they are absolutely as heavenly as i remembered or even more so, especially when i was licking the batter off spoons and spatula--delicious

however, after tasting i believe they should have been more intensely orange-flavoured and also moister, so the recipe needs fiddling.  anyone know offhand--when you want to moisten a muffin/cake type recipe, what do you add?  liquid/butter, or eggs?  or both?  or should i just remove some of the dry flour mixture in general and see if that works?  here is the recipe as it stands:
