sunday is incredibly slow on my friendslist. there has been nothing to do so far but mock the freemasons (i can't remember why, actually) and get laughed at by my better half because i hate war movies, but nino's in the sequel to flags of our fathers so i'm going to have to see it.
"but i don't have to watch the first one, do i?" i said, and she just laughed more and more. having momentarily forgotten clint eastwood's name, i said, "a new movie by that guy who made a movie about hilary swank boxing."
"he's clint eastwood," said my better half indignantly, "he is not a guy who made a movie about hilary swank boxing." then she felt the need to test me, to make sure i really did know who he was. i failed to mention cowboys and had a vague idea that he played fighter pilots. (he did play a fighter pilot at least once, right? didn't he?) i didn't know about the spaghetti westerns either.
and on another note it's not that i'm incapable of making up things that you might do in uzbekistan, it's just that now i've started thinking about it i'm a little curious. there are eleven languages there, not counting russian and uzbek, just according to wikipedia. wow, i kind of love wikipedia. and now i'm reading about the grammar of chechen and ingush1. (eta: aha! kazakhs were traditionally nomadic. yurts!)
oh, and finally, [insert repetitive whining about weather here].
1. "The case system is ergative, i.e. the subject of a transitive verb appears in an oblique case and the direct object is in the nominative, as is the subject of an intransitive verb (as in Basque); verbs take no person agreement, but some of them agree in gender with the direct object or intransitive subject."2
2. since i honestly think that nothing else is as cool as this linguistics stuff it's possible that i have the wrong major.
