Older and darker?
27 Jan 2008 03:28 pmPaul McGann's in Sad Cypress! Also Rupert Penry-Jones. And Emily Blunt in Death on the Nile! And Edward Hardwicke in The Hollow, although he wasn't very helpful at solving the mystery.
These sidekickless stories are so sad, though. The role of the sidekick is fulfilled by guest stars generally (only partially though, as they're far less omnipresent, and less helpful, than the regulars) - Paul McGann in the first case, some random dude with hardly any lines in the second, and (more or less) Megan Dodd playing a kind of antagonistic artiste in The Hollow. The other characters are interesting, but the focus shifts away from Poirot and the episodes become much less fun and amusing without his bevy of tagalongs and the appropriate foil they provided for his little quirks.
