It was Chinese bootleg DVD subtitles from Star Wars for "I'll never rule the universe with you". Link from [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda

Poor Wax has been up all night with an emergency toothache that painkillers can't kill after 24 hours awake due to coming off the night shift. She's getting ready for an emergency trip to the dentist now.

Back when I lived with my parents, I had copies of the somewhat-rare Jeeves novels Much Obliged, Jeeves (US title Jeeves and the Tie that Binds) and Jeeves in the Offing (US title How Right You Are, Jeeves), conveniently stuffed together in an out-of-print omnibus. But it got lost before I moved here, and over the years I've concentrated on filling the other gaps in my Jeeves collection since at the time I was missing about five or six other books. But finally my collection was complete with the exception of those two and My Man Jeeves (US title Do you think Americans could get what 'my man' means or should we change it to 'my servant which is an old-timey British employee, sort of like a personal assistant, or, like, a butler, yeah, think of it as a butler, Jeeves'? Well, that's kind of a mouthful. How about we change it to something completely and totally unrelated instead, like we did with the last two? The boss wouldn't like that, let's just leave it. Wanna go for a drink? Hell. Okay.)

But just now Dad found the omnibus! He can mail it to me! And then I will have all the books except ONE! (And a few hard-to-find un-anthologised short stories, the bastards.) I'd honestly forgotten I even ever had Jeeves in the Offing, although I knew I had Much Obliged because I wrote an, er, episode tag for it years ago.

This is cause for a celebration, like, totally. \o/ (Although considering I recently emailed Dad a tagged list of the gaps in my book collection that included both of those, I'm a little disturbed that he apparently forgot to check it.)

AND. They also found my missing Paddington (this is the stuffed bear I was given on the occasion of my birth, and which I kept a close watch on and always travelled with up to the time I moved away; but he wouldn't fit in my suitcase when I came to Finland) and some other missing stuffed animals, like one of the stuffed dragons my mom used to make. Yay!

Dear Finnish doctors:

There's nothing cool about pain. It doesn't build character. It doesn't bring you closer to any higher powers. It doesn't lead to philosophical epiphanies. At best, it increases your tolerance. More likely, it interferes with your eating and sleeping habits. All it has to do is keep you awake a few nights to convert you to a semi-useless and extremely unhappy lump of seething resentment. So, you know, if someone comes to you in agonising pain because of some kind of medical problem, and they can't even sleep, then I think that fucking ibuprofen is not really the answer. A good clue would be if they've already been taking ibuprofen and it didn't help. The beautiful thing about your medical degree is that all kinds of options for pain relief for your patients are available to you with the use of something called a prescription book, and many of these are ones they couldn't buy at the drug store without your help! If you want to earn acclaim and admiration from your colleagues and patients, you could even try using something strong enough to actually fight the pain!

An extra-special note to Finnish dentists: Try anaesthetic when performing root canals, oral surgeries, and even just your average cavity fillings! Your patients will like it and they won't become a) weaklings or b) hardened drug addicts, honest! Fuck sisu.

No love,
Cim

P.S. You guys aren't nearly as cool as the Finnish cops.

+ New computer bits will shortly enable translation! Fast translation!

- New computer bits have put a strain on the credit card to the tune of €1000.

+ Translations of the past month will be payed very soon - once it's August, hopefully nearly immediately - totalling ≈€1700 (Wax) and ≈€83 (me). Enough to pay it off!

- Wax has been in excruciating agony and barely slept 4 out of the last 48 hours because of said agony - a bacterial infection in an old root canal that's going to have to be redone. She's got a huge swelling on her jaw.

+ She can has emergency dental care today. And antibiotics.

- She had to max out the credit card to do it.

- The dentist only gave her 600mg FUCKING IBUPROFEN for her excruciating pain. The ibuprofen doesn't work; it gives partial relief, cutting the pain down to merely "agonising", for a couple of hours, then wears off.

- The dentist wouldn't even give her sick leave from work.

- She probably won't be able to get more than a few more hours' sleep before she has to leave for said work.

+ At least we'll still have enough money to pay off the credit card in a few days.

- But then she'll still have to have the root canal redone.

+The next paycheck should cover that.

- We still don't know if we're going to be moving soon. Which would affect the paycheck question, although at this current rate of molasses, not the next one.

+Wax can quit Nokia, regardless!

- The new prescription glasses she had to order while still on the Nokia insurance will have to be pushed back from tomorrow to Monday, which is a few more days in which she can't move closer to quitting and a few more days tortured in the Nokia dungeons of drudgery.

+Good news! A friend tentatively planning to move to Finland, somewhere in this general area, in the next year or so!

- Right when we're planning to move away from this general area.

+ She brought us strawberry Pop-Tarts, though!

- Which Wax can't eat.

:??? *morosely munches strawberry Pop-Tarts despite impending Stomachache of Worry*
