cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (arrrgh brains)
I've been crocheting kind of... compulsively: yesterday I started making a new hat when I finished the last one without even really noticing with the planning part of my brain. Then I asked Wax, "Why did I start making this hat?" I didn't like it, either, and unravelled it. ... Maybe I will brush up on basic knitting and attempt to teach myself to make a sweater. Hats being sort of small, they don't even use up a skein of wool apiece.

My seasonal affectiveness is really getting to me now. I can always feel it creeping up all autumn, but this last week it's been like an anvil to my head (okay, that's an exaggeration and I've never actually had that anyway. It's more like when you black out and almost faint. Or like when you hit your funny bone so badly that you completely lose track of everything else except OW. Or like when you are so tired that you keep halfway nodding off every thirty seconds, in a lecture, and you have no idea what's going on but you can't wake yourself up and then later you look at your notes and you've like, written some random words that aren't even all in English and doodled a spaceship and then made a huge inkblot.) - like I don't actually ever wake up, all day long. I actually did see a bit of the sunlight today, but the sky was solidly overcast the entire time. My brain feels tired, foggy and wrapped up in cottonwool. Ugh, I hate winter. Stupid elliptical planetary orbit.

You know... Chekov didn't join TOS until season 2. Although if that's the only quibble, I think I'll be quite pleased. I love the cast and the idea of making a prequel, it's just... I hate JJ Abrams a lot. But then, plenty of asshats have made good movies, so that alone shouldn't preclude liking it. I really really want to like it.

One of the wips that K'Sal, my beta/writing partner in TOS fandom, never finished dealt extensively with Kirk's childhood and his brother. It was one of her longest unfinished fragments, too. (I'll probably never forgive myself for having lost it in the shuffle between computers - I switched main computers three times around her period of highest productivity and, what with my Dad's car crash and my non-functional psychiatric medication and undiagnosed anxiety issues, I wasn't as... together as I needed to be at that time. Her writing was far from the only thing I lost in that period - just the thing of greatest emotional value). I remember that it was engrossing and mysterious and exciting - I love K'Sal's Kirk characterisation like nothing else - and kind of revelatory, too. I don't remember it well enough to mentally reconstruct it, but that glimpse of baby!Jim in the trailer, and the mischief in his eyes, reminded me powerfully.

When I couldn't fall asleep last night I spontaneously remembered that my Japanese conversation drill partner seven years ago was this cute little dude who looked like Doctor Bashir from Deep Space Nine, whom I did not know at the time was played by Siddig el Fadil (my starry-eyed phase over A Dangerous Man: Lawrence After Arabia didn't come until after I moved to Finland). I always called him Dr. Bashir in my head. I'd entirely forgotten his existence in the interim, even with all the times I've thought about Bashir since then.

Last night [livejournal.com profile] perhael was saying that she would totally read Simon/Garfunkel, no matter how badwrong it might be. And that got me thinking about how I would totally read Elton John/Billy Joel, even though I'm pretty sure there's no might about that wrong there. (At this point, [livejournal.com profile] wax_jism always says it would be more appropriate to slash Elton with the dude he songwrites with whose name I can't remember.) So. Musical partnerships. What would *you* totally read?
