advent of spring

Walked to town to retrieve a package, and I think it's the official first day of spring because I was able to wear a skirt for the first time. In fact, my feet got hot in my lovely Docs and I had to take my coat off and stuff it in my bag for the walk home. The sun was glaringly golden; it was a good thing I had my hatablockas. With the latest snow melted and the sidewalks swept free of gravel I can wear sneakers for a few days at least.

Last night the Crazy, who likes drinking running water from the faucet but will take standing water if she can get it, knocked over a big enameled pitcher on the kitchen table that contained somewhere around 1½ litres of water. The puddle covered what seemed like a quarter of the kitchen floor, and we put down three towels trying to sop it up. Before they had time to do their thing, Lily vaulted from the top of the monitor to the top shelf and knocked the sewing kit into the puddle. I had to make three trips back there to retrieve spools of thread that I didn't find the first time, alerted by Lily chasing them repeatedly into the wall.
