misfired panic alert files
25 Apr 2012 10:37 amWhen I was in America last week my mother was telling the story of how she got appendicitis when she was 14 again, I think in more detail than ever before, and how she barely survived and the doctors said they had never seen an appendix so gangrenous in a living person before (she'd been keeping ice on her side for 3-4 days on direction of her grandmother, who was working as a GP's receptionist at the time).
So last night I turned over in my sleep and felt a vague twinge in my side which instantly woke me up in furious, cold-sweating 'WHAT IF I HAVE APPENDICITIS?' panic. (It took me ten or fifteen seconds to work out that appendicitis would present as a horrible agony, not a twinge, and go back to sleep.)
