cimorene: Blue text reading "This Old House" over a photo of a small yellow house (knypplinge)
We bought a hammer drill like a year ago, and even though I researched first, we bought a different brand when we got to the store - the price point was a tiny bit lower, the features were a bit more impressive, it's a totally normal reputable brand that Wax's mom has owned and hers worked fine... . This was a very bad impulse apparently, or just bad luck, because either the keyless chuck is broken or we are both stupid and unable to figure out how to use it. We've both spent hours struggling to change the bits and given up. We've watched YouTube videos. We've downloaded pdfs. We've combed the internet for questions and answers on the topic. We just don't know. Anyway, ideally we should take it back and have it fixed or exchanged, but there's been a lot of chaos, and we don't know if we have the receipt or not. And also one should minimize errands right now of course. And also Wax says she's terrified we'll take it to the store and say there's something wrong with it only to learn it was our fault all along.

If it worked we could drill into masonry and tile ourselves, but it doesn't and we can't, so today I marked all the locations for the screws to hold up the towel bar and shelf and mirror in the upstairs bath, which is tiled to the ceiling, so that the apprentice carpenters can put the screws in for us tomorrow. They also have to figure out how to cut the bendy shower rod to length and put it in, and sand and install the butcherblock counters for us (they agreed but they haven't done it yet; I think they had to get some more tools and a finer grit of sandpaper). They started cutting trim instead, because they have to put in... four? I think? door frames and extension jambs for the walls that got thicker, and 1.75 rooms' worth of new crown molding. One of the doors is really weird, thanks to its original builders (the house's first owner built it himself), and there's apparently gonna have to be some weird filler in there because it's crooked.

The counters aren't done so we can't tile the backsplash yet so we can't call the plumber and electrician yet. But I haven't painted the cabinet fronts either anyway.
