cimorene: SGA's Sheppard and McKay, two men standing in an overgrown sunlit field (pastoral)
I recently discovered two pairs of my jeans had become too small, leaving me with only one really good pair that are comfortable to wear, and since the pandemic isn't actually over - in fact, all of us locally seem to have noticed an uptick in vaccinated acquaintances getting infected - I don't want to go shopping in a crowded shopping mall. Now, there are times when shopping malls are not crowded, but those are times when Wax and I are both working, for the most part. I could take a day off, but then I'd need to take a bus there, which makes the trip take about four times as long, and I'd still probably get enraged at the lower population density's disregard for masks. Anyway, going to the biggest shopping malls in the region is out of the question on the weekends or in the evenings, and that's where the jeans stores are located, and that's where I'd have to go to try them on because at this point I'm out of brands/styles/sizes that I already know fit me...

... and that's why I've been locked in an exhausting online shopping hell for over a month. This big shop has a good selection of brands and lots of filtering tools and free returns and pretty fast shipping, so it's... possible, just not fun. So far I've ordered, I think, seven pairs and returned six of them. The ones I kept I actually LOVE - they're Lee "Jane" - but I don't like the other colors they have in my size, and when I attempted to use their fit as a guide to order another style of Lee jeans this failed miserably, and they were way too short. During this time I also discovered my beloved insulated high-top Vans ("Vans MTE"), which I wear when it's cold but not icy/snowy/slippery/raining etc, are on the edge of death, and they don't have the same color anymore, which sent me into a tailspin because I didn't like any of the others as much so I had to do the whole obsessive comparing and contrasting and visualizing thing that I do whenever I have to choose between two options for a significant purchase. Also I had to buy some snow boots - not like my regular snow-and-ice Timberlands, but sort of the snow equivalent of rubber rainboots, for when it's -15° to -30° and you're bundled up in what feels like a space suit. Last year I discovered I needed some after we had that record-breaking snow EVERYWHERE, but I couldn't get them anymore because they sold out of the most common sizes (which I'm unlucky enough to wear).

And to top all of this off, last week I discovered that my sheepskin slippers, when I got them out of summer storage, have been eaten by clothes moths! Just the inside footbeds, so they're not completely destroyed, but it was an unpleasant discovery to make with a bare foot - instead of that lovely soft shearling feel, it was weirdly gritty and dirty feeling. So I had to order some new fur insoles for them too. I'm getting really tired of having to order things online and collect packages at this point. (I also have to order more catfood and diabetes care products for Snookums - test strips, pen needles, lancets - about once a month.) The only bright spots in all this Ordering have been some new socks and underwear I stuck in one of the early orders. Green socks are good, but they only go so far.
