The wrong way to plant 135 bulbs

We did not get a bulb planter, because Wax insisted that the ground was so soft that we didn't need it (it's been raining all summer, the septic tank overflowed a month before it was scheduled to be drained, etc). I was able to make appropriate holes in the softer bits of flower beds with the handle bit of a metal rake head, but after we got to a denser spot I wasn't strong enough and Wax had to make them all with an entire rake held upside down.
And then after we finished the last one we went to a big garden center and did buy a bulb planter, but the store turned out to be a bit disappointing - no high quality trowels, no bamboo stakes, none of the little clips you use to attach orchids and vines to stakes, no sphagnum moss, no rooting hormone. We bought some of those coconut fiber stakes for vines to climb on, a couple of ceramic pots, a bulb planter (for next year), and a bag of those little lava rock pebbles. We had to stop at the regular grocery store to get a Fiskars trowel. I ordered sphagnum, pine bark, charcoal, and rooting hormone online. No bamboo stakes or clips yet, but we have run out of space that could support orchids anyway, so practicality will prevent us from getting any more until we've rearranged the furniture.
