v for vendetta; pot 45-48
13 Apr 2006 01:17 amwe saw "v" for vendetta while we were in town today. i enjoyed it a lot. and watching it made me want to write about themes and narratives and relate it to the phantom of the opera and to various descent myths, but i feel i'm not really intelligent enough at the moment. or at least i haven't thought about it for long enough. when i try to relate phantom by itself to descent myths, i end up trailing off or babbling pretty quickly. really, descent myths do that by themselves. it seems odd to be a fangirl of a particular kind of myth, but i suppose the world takes all kinds. and besides, i've been a fangirl of weirder things. shut up, wax. we also bought a bunch of little odds and ends including this nivea moisturizer that comes in a pot and it is so soft, it's like whipped butter. and it feels soooooo good. x.x
and of course there is obligatory prince of tennis content. i watched the first akutsu arc today, and okay, i find akutsu himself kind of tiresome (except for his baby!self), but there were other things, so here is my tezuka and ryoma squee from episodes 45 through 48. in 045. devil on the court.
okay, first, when he doesn't know what's going on, inui looks at tezuka and fuji. because he knows their tennis genius instinctively understands what's going on when his data won't.
second, fuji's like, "^__^ his tennis is completely different from tezuka's."
and tezuka's like, "i'll take that as a compliment."
oh, man. up until now i didn't even know tezuka could do a burn. well, out loud, i mean, he's obviously constantly thinking of them in his head. but--! aöslkdfjaösld. he's so calm throughout this match. i don't think he's ever particularly worried--more like on tenterhooks to see what ryoma's going to do. and THEN in 046. samurai spirit
well, i was expecting more gold-tinted flashbacks to the clay court match because, um, people told me to. but still, HAHAH. it was long, it melded tezuka and nanjiroh and ryoma in several delightfully dodgy-looking blends, and it included not just tezuka's tennis and tezuka's words of encouragement ("show me your style of tennis!") but also tezuka flying, his lavender outfit rippling dramatically around his sculpted body, and a long lingering shot of the skyscrapers and construction equipment behind the court. and then ryoma, of course, turned the golden colour of awesome (& etc) tennis moves to return the shot. and tezuka watched the whole thing with his arms crossed and his heart swelling and thought, "show me, echizen!"
also, more nanjiroh-ryoma bits, and how much do i love that? öasldkfjöaslkd. and, ahah, in 048. decisive moment
right before he beats akutsu, ryoma says "i just remembered i still owe you something." and then when he hits the ball, "this is for kawamura-senpai!" and "this is for arai-senpai, whom you beat up!" and when he actually makes the shot, a bunch of people get shocked into black and white, and we get all these snapshots of their little faces going :O. we get a lingering look at the black and white shot containing tezuka. kaidoh, arai and one of the ichinen trio are gaping in the front. tezuka's behind them, arms crossed, smirking.

smirking. aöslkdjföaskldjfaklösdl.
then a plane flies overhead, nanjiroh smirks at the sky, and ryoma is mobbed on the court by the team, who are running and bouncing to congratulate him. except tezuka, who is apparently lurking with his hands in his pockets and standing still instead of walking. he looks awkward. i have a feeling he's having one of those angsty mr darcy moments.

there. now i am going to read "v" for vendetta in 15 minutes. eta: wax just walked by my chair and saw the ficlet in progress where fuji mysteriously appears in ryoma's kitchen. "are you writing prince of tennis?" "uh. i already did," i pointed out. "oh." "you must have missed when i posted it." "oh."

*********SPOILS******
TEZUKA BASICALLY TELLS RYOMA TO USE HIS TENNIS FOR EVIL. RYOMA FOR A MOMENT LOOKS LIKE HE WANTS TO PAW TEZUKA TO THE GROUND. IT IS THE GREATEST THING EVER.

Date: 16 Apr 2006 11:48 pm (UTC)tezuka's behind them, arms crossed, smirking.
Is it not the sexiest thing EVER EVER EVER ASDFKJASDLJF AHHHHHH.
Also: When is Tezuka not having an angsty Mr. Darcy moment? my mom and I watched P&P this week, seriously, all I could think was TEZUKAAAAAA the whole time.

Date: 17 Apr 2006 07:48 am (UTC)THE SMIRKING IS THE SEXIEST THING EVER OH MY GOD
HE WANTS RYOMA TO USE HIS TENNIS FOR EVIL AND HE NEVER WORRIES FOR AN INSTANT THAT HE WON'T WIN. HE'S JUST SITTING THERE ENJOYING THE SHOW. FILLED WITH TREMBLING GLEE AND SLIGHTLY AROUSED, NO DOUBT.
and. re:darcy, point. except i think most of the time tezuka isn't bothered much by his inability to communicate with other people except by intimidating them, because he... thinks other people are stupid. which, okay, darcy does too, i suppose, but he kind of apologises that one time, but then again, he's trying to get into elizabeth's pants when he apologises, so i suppose i have no real evidence that darcy wishes for the gift of easy social intercourse. except with elizabeth.
:X god tezuka hanging back there halfway across the court. he's trying to go to him and then he's STUCK HALFWAY with his hands awkwardly in his pockets watching everyone else pounce ryoma and hug him and :X :X when he knows that tennis is his special thing with ryoma. BUT NO ONE ELSE KNOWS. except ryoma.

Date: 17 Apr 2006 11:37 am (UTC)and again note how his complete LACK OF SURPRISE parallels Ryoma's complete LACK OF SURPRISE when Tezuka whips
itout the Tezuka Zone. He just KNOWS INSTINCTIVELY that Ryoma is going to kick ass and take on the world. It's also clear I think from that one shot that Tezuka just gets as caught up in watching Ryoma play as Ryoma does watching Tezuka play.AND. Ahhhhhh in that second cap, it always seems to me like Ryoma (who also has his hands shoved in his pockets) is looking helplessly across at Buchou and bewailing the fact that all these PEOPLE are there between them. *mutter*
Tezuka smirking seriously sexiest thing ever. And! Mr. Darcy doesn't really open up to people outside of Elizabeth, that we see in the book! They neither of them perform to strangers! Except Ryoma is never a stranger to Tezukaaaaa, because Tezuka is basically in love with Ryoma at first sight. *_* Oh I love them love them.

Date: 17 Apr 2006 12:13 pm (UTC)i love their mutual lacks of surprise. :D and i love it when they do surprise each other, very occasionally. the surprise is always followed by this incredibly determined grimace, too, where they're thinking why didn't i see that coming? i'm supposed to understand everything about him and/or what an awesome move! he should be playing tennis with ONLY ME!
TOTALLY.
actually, darcy's behaviour with bingley is a lot like tezuka's with oishi or fuji, too. namely, he lets bingley follow him around and occasionally deigns to reply monosyllabically to his comments. and that's his idea of friendship with his BEST FRIEND. because long speeches are for elizabeth. *.* and of course, you can replace the names there.
this comparison makes me very happy. ♥
