cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (arrrgh brains)
[personal profile] cimorene
[livejournal.com profile] hederahelix has made an important post about race issues, sparked by the recent wank in SGA fandom. As she points out so cogently, you can always stand to have your consciousness raised; if you were involved in the debate at all, this post is for you. If you were confused or offended or angry about anything, it's pretty much required reading. She is painstaking, patient, and clear; she uses a lot of analogies and examples, comes at her important points from multiple angles, and includes footnotes with background reading for the issues she references. Race, Fandom and the Shoes of Other People - Part 1 & Part 2.

Thanks for the link. It was interesting, and also reinforced my assumption that my brain just does not work like other peoples. I have a long way to go.

This debate is just about figuring out how the other person's is working and communicating with them effectively.
