cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (i am the others)

I bought a new computer mic yesterday so I could use Skype again, and it doesn't work. I'm not sure there's any such thing as a simpler piece of hardware. You aren't supposed to have to install them at all - it didn't even come with directions. But it definitely doesn't work, though the headset that I broke last week didn't have any problems (prior to being broken, that is). How annoying! Stores are closed on Sunday. Chatting via text with either of my parents is resoundingly ineffective (Mom can't touch type, Dad can't use his hands and has to use voice-recognition software).

Meanwhile, at the movies the other day wax asked her sister-in-law's live-in partner of a year and a half who he was. His confused, crestfallen little face! He thought she was joking at first, I'm pretty sure, and then he said "But don't you recognise me?" while I choked with laughter. Ouch. Poor little dude! I'm not sure who was more embarrassed.

Speaking of the movies, Death Proof was predictably awesome. In some ways it might have been the funniest of Tarantino's films. We're all exceedingly annoyed at being forced to pay twice for the two halves of the double-feature, though; the second one isn't out yet. According to rumour this is the fault of the movie having tanked in American theatres, which reduces my opinion of America even further, though I wouldn't really have thought that possible. What, like Tarantino hasn't proven himself? Honestly.

In other movie news, I really want to see this Danish movie with Mads Mikkelsen, After the Wedding, because Mads Mikkelsen! And the theatre synopsis aside, the review in Hufvudstadsbladet was intriguing. But, for some reason, only English films are subbed in Swedish as well, here: even the Spanish ones are Finnish only, which is more than a little bizarre (bizarrer still, there are no subs at all on Finnish films: is it then assumed that everyone is fluent in Finnish? So why the Swedish subs on the English films?). There's really no hope for a Danish one, since it is generally assumed (though wrongly) that a native speaker of one Scandinavian tongue is perfectly capable of following a film in another (there's really not much hope for Swedish speakers and Danish films, though - the accent is just too weird. Danish books, sure. Danish films, no).

i've heard that they released the movies separately because they wanted to make death proof longer, which, ugh, i wouldn't have been able to stand. (well, unless it was longer with more awesome zoe bell shenanigans.) esp. since it was already three hours long. XD

i, too, want to see after the wedding. it does sound really interesting, even though i tend not to watch many sort of--relationship/family-drama-type movies, which is what it appears to be.

I'm sure that, since it's Danish, it's really not at all like a romantic comedy as the synopsis material might suggest if it were Hollywood.

i have no illusions that it's a romantic comedy; i saw the trailer and it seems anything but. XD for some reason, i just tend to not seek out movies--serious or romantic comedy or whatnot--that have that style of plot line, or rather, that involve marriage and former love.
