cimorene: painting of a glowering woman pouring a thin stream of glowing green liquid from an enormous bowl (misanthropy)

Quote from [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda here:

Oh, and quick PSA from elbales: If you see a "Career Cruising" meme going around, please don't participate or pass it on. It's not a free quiz--it's on a pay site, and by using whoever's login/password it is, you're going to get them into a huge amount of trouble. As wendymr has pointed out, it's a site for professional career counselors and their clients, and my suspicion is that one of those clients leaked the password, probably to their friends, and it went wild from there. So, you know, for the sake of this poor counselor, please tell people to delete or lock their meme entries or not participate at all. I don't know if the counselor can change his/her password, either.

I really wince when I think of how far and how fast this meme has already spread and the number of people I've seen who filled it out, or filled it out multiple times.

Oh wow, just from my own flists I've probably seen at least a hundred people do it. O_o

Yeah, seriously, I hope they don't have to pay for each one or anything. But maybe they're just supposed to get in trouble for sharing their password.

That's troubling. I hadn't been paying one whit of attention to that meme, but I'll pass on the warning too.

Yeah, I think that horse has pretty much left the stable as far as the probability of the account owner getting in trouble, but perhaps it will help them if the spread can be checked a bit.

Undoubtedly. It's a big concern though, especially if they have to pay for every access made on their account. That's the type of bill that can swiftly put a business out of business. And even if that doesn't happen, there's also the distinct possibility of someone getting fired for all of this crap.

Yeah, from what I read at that post from the career counselor who alerted cleolinda, it looks like they're meant to give the login information to their customers, who are allowed to use it at home, and it's probably a customer who leaked it. Presumably, then, it's not entirely pay-as-you-go. o.O But if the account owner gets in a lot of trouble with the site... who knows?
