KIRK has been split into his nice-but-indecisive and evil halves for most of the episode and has only managed because of SPOCK's assistance. he has just been reassembled.

KIRK, smiling: thank you, mr spock--for both of us.

SPOCK smiles slightly, closes his eyes and gives a little nod of acknowledgement.

SPOCK: shall i pass that on to the crew, sir?

KIRK, with the hint of a laugh, still smiling warmly: the impostor's back where he belongs. let's forget him.

SPOCK, without ceasing his little smile, glances down and to the side and then back, and quirks his eyebrows. KIRK walks away, and SPOCK watches him go.
