If you're not a salt fiend, you can skip this. I have salt cravings so intense I could salt practically anything; the craving's visceral, probably genetic or something. It's hard to satisfy this. My craving doesn't demand fried foods, but fried foods like potato chips and french fries are often the best vehicles for salt.

[Poll #1140393]

My favourite foods are creamy, heavy on the garlic guacamole; light corn chips with fresh heavily-salted salsa; and, of course, Pepperidge Farm goldfish crackers.

As snacks goldfish are a little expensive, yes. But they're also comparatively healthy, baked, with a good dash of cheese, along with a deliciously buttery, salty flavour and a light crunch. They're not overly oily. And they don't sell them in Finland. :((

Over the last couple of years I've tried different strategies for the craving - potato chips; inferior, lumpy, dutch and german corn chips with salsa; roasted potato wedges; ramen or rice with soy sauce; malt bread with miso paste. None of these things works quite right because the balance of sweet to salt is wrong or because they're too oily or SOMETHING. I need to kick the potato chip habit and substitute something good. I'm going to try homemade cracker recipes until I find something I like. I'm determined this time! Because it's stupid to eat something that's actually less healthy than the food you prefer merely because it's an easy vehicle for salt. (Yes, I've tried saving trouble by just licking it out of my hand. ALAS that does not work.)

we found these awesome crackers called "no-no flatbreads". there is a very tasty range, some of which have big salt chunks on. mmmm. but they're very low in fat. i don't know if they'd sell those in finland though. maybe i could mail you some.

I really like those round vegetable-flavoured crackers you can get from the grocery store. I'm a salt addict too, but there's something in potato chips I'm allergic to (the seasoning?), and a handful of chips isn't worth the hours of pain.
