I'd like to see some statistics on how often people actually send buttons "pinging", "skittering", "popping", or otherwise flying off of their (or someone else's) clothing. I can't help feeling that in fiction it is grossly misrepresented.

Well, in my experience, never. But then I've never ripped anyone's clothes off, either.

Once I pulled a shirt off over my head and got a button stuck in my nostril. Trufax.

It has never happened to me! Nor have I ended up bruised all over. Or drunk off two beers. Or reduced to singing love songs to my intended.

Obviously my life is v. boring.

I actually tried once to get the buttons to fly off an old shirt, just out of curiosity. I never did manage it, even pulling as hard as I could. Granted I'm not very strong, but if that shirt had been on me and someone had been tugging on it that hard, that would have been the end of them getting any action probably forever.

I've not seen buttons ping off, but I've seen buttons hold on and the shirt rip instead!
