new cat: Arwen
18 Aug 2009 10:29 pmBarring future complications, this is our new cat. I never posted publicly about the fact that we lost Lily this summer. We were feeling fragile and still don't wish to talk about it, but after a while we settled into having a one-cat household and then set out to find another cat.
She seemed okay with the new digs when she was brought over this afternoon - understandably a little spooked but still, far braver than the Crazy. She's just as friendly as your average Cornish Rex (that is to say, puppyishly inquisitive, playful and friendly), but a little testier: she hisses more readily and even growls, although not very threateningly (and she still seems to be non-violent; it's just a particularly emphatic message that she doesn't want to be picked up).
She's three, which is fully-grown and old enough for her coat to have started fading from pure black to charcoal grey, but still extremely young as these things go, so she's rather kittenish. She's also a registered Cornish Rex like Lily and Tea, but, like Tea, had to be fixed and retired for health problems (in her case, the uterus. In Tea's, dermatitis); she comes to us from a local Rex breeder who was having Problems in the Home due to personality conflicts between the starlets. So meet...

This video is mostly uneventful but does provide a partial tour of our freshly-cleaned apartment? Anyway, I told Wax I was going to delete it because the cats refused to camwhore in it, and she was like, "It's funny! Post it!" So here it is... The Blair Cats Project.

TEA: What the fuck?
[a flurry of hissing and blurry little tiny paws]
TEA: [stalks away with dignity]
One minute later
TEA is perching grumpily on the bed.
ARWEN, sticking her head up like a groundhog: O HAI AGIN
TEA: BIIIIIIIIIIITCH.
ARWEN: But -
TEA: FUCK OFF.
ARWEN: U sure?
TEA: BIIIIITCH.
ARWEN: [gives up]
TEA: [immediately goes to sleep]
