So, the other day I had the most terrifyingly direct allegorical dream I can remember ever having! It's like a Meaningful Dream from a piece of fiction!

It was yet another high school nightmare. My entire International Baccalaureate class were summoned to the gym to find that all our parents had been brought in to surprise us. The evil principal explained that they (all the adults) had an experiment to conduct on us (the students).

The experiment was that they made us sit cross-legged on the floor in a grid of twenty-five and then started a series of twenty-five five-minute timers. While the timer was going, we all had to keep talking - about whatever we wanted, they said, as long as we didn't stop talking at all, and if we did we'd be penalized with electrical shocks. When the timer sounded we were to get up and move without talking to the next place in the grid and do it all over again until we'd gone through every spot in the grid!

The dream was terrifying. When I woke up I remembered what I actually talked about for the first two intervals and after that it sort of turned into this blur of babble, picking up occasional words from everyone else and hearing/seeing when the people around me got zapped. It was kind of frequent, that part. I was behind a girl I wasn't particularly close to, but she was a member of my clique, so there was a certain loyalty there, and at the end of the last round, I rose from my stupor because when the end timer sounded, she collapsed into a puddle on the floor instead of moving; I grabbed her around the waist and pushed her forward to the next spot and propped her up.

Then the evil principal got a megaphone and told us the experiment was over, and we all laid there dazed. In fact, she explained, if we looked around us, we would see that it had been over 8 rounds ago, and the actual purpose of the thing was to see if our conditioning would keep us going in our terrified routine after the experiment was over, and for how long, but after none of us even noticed when we finished with a row and had to move ourselves, they decided that the answer was "indefinitely", and they wanted us to think about that, thanks. Then they released us to talk to our parents, and mine told me they knew what the experiment consisted of in advance. I was more exhausted and relieved than mad at them in the dream. They were going to take me to a coffee shop to have some dessert, and my mom hugged me, but I was pretty numb, although not, I think, remotely as numb as I'd actually be after an ordeal like in the dream - it was more like the numbness after an anxiety attack. Unfortunately, I woke up before I could have that dessert.
