[English to English translation completely free, apparently. Does this hold true for the entire story? Or perhaps it's already built in, so that the word count reflects twice the length of what happens?]

Well, in number 2's defense, R&J is a *very* little-known work of an unrecognized author. Only people who passed the 9th grade (in the United States, at least) would have read this particular play.

I think it becomes apparent in reading the author's note what level of literacy she expects her readers to have achieved.

LOL. Well, to be fair, I have encountered the occasional person in fandom who really was around that level of literacy... usually because their native language was non-Indo-European, though.
