Today's my mother-in-law's 60th birthday, so Wax & I will be leaving on the evening ferry for a weekend in Stockholm featuring a day at a Japanese spa1. We're coming back early Monday morning on the Sunday night ferry, and in the meanwhile will I imagine be frequently online via our phones, but probably mainly on chat and Twitter, since we probably won't have a lot of time to sit down and browse dw/lj with the laptop (although I hope I'm wrong about that). Still, there definitely won't be any plebefic headers or shoes until next week.

This will also be the first trip where I don't have to reserve a huge chunk of space in my overnight bag for four or so novels, and will instead have all the ebooks I could need in my pocket with my phone.

After our last harrowing vacation, I'm basically of a mind to never leave home again because travel's Just Not Worth It, but at least I am positive to NOT be walking all the way across town this time (baby niece Sofia and of course MIL will be present), to NOT be out all night with nowhere to sleep (b&b already booked), and to get plenty of delicious food. And I do love Stockholm. So it could be worse.

The trickiest bit is that I'll be in the Baltic without cell reception in the evening on my mother's birthday, so I'll have to cross my fingers about managing to call her before she goes to church.

1. I'm still not sure why one would need a Japanese spa in Stockholm. I'm assuming it doesn't include a Japanese-style giant hot soaking pool (if it does I take it all back, because I love those), but is more along the lines of Japanese decorations while you get massages or facial masks or whatever, and apparently eating sushi at the same time. Possibly I was born without the gene for appreciating spas, because they seem like a lot of money wasted on boring grooming tasks and time spent lying around that could be better spent reading. At home. Alone. (I'm a socially anxious introvert, here, what do you want from me?) Except massages: I don't find them a waste of time because they feel good to me, but you don't have to go to a spa to get them.

I'm a bit baffled about the spa too - apparently val's brother was there last weekend, for reasons which are kind of unclear, but have not received any reports as to what on earth one does there.
