  1. So I kind of sort of got a little drunk on the multiple pages of comments to my first foray into fandom - [Story X] - and not only obsessively refreshed my del.icio.us tag watch, like, a heinous amount of times (OH MY GOD THIRTY WHOLE PEOPLE BOOKMARKED ME), but I responded to every comment I got, which I know is totally breaking netiquette for what cool authors do. Cool authors just serenely bask and do not respond to comments except from their special entourage and are, you know, put-together and shit. Fuck that. I clearly am not very cool.

  2. Warnings: An awful lot of alcohol is consumed in this fic. An awful lot was consumed whilst writing it, too.

  3. [Author's Notes] Thanks also to the literal army of people it took to convince me to post this

  4. Summary: ""I'm sorry," Frank choked, silent tears falling down his face, not bothering to prevent their steady tracks down his cheeks. "It's just... I was thinking... What if it happened? I can't... Gerard I...""

  5. Warnings: Violence, heavily implied non-con, OC death, robot smexing, brief voyeurism.

Note to my usual readers: You might not like this story because of the language and some of the situations and scenes. And the presence of Captain Jack Harkness. I'm sorry if you don't but I hope you'll give it a shot anyway. I didn't really choose the characters or story so much as it chose me, and I cannot possibly write Jack any other way than what he is. It's what makes him Jack Harkness. Enjoy the lighter moments while you can because this story gets a bit dark. Because it has to. Hence the title. These are two very damaged individuals, and that's canon for them. Hopefully I'll get them to a lighter shade of midnight by the end.

While writing Flirting Jack can be a lot of fun, I actually see the relationship between the Doctor and Jack to be more like that of teacher and student, since under the Doctor's influence, Jack went from being a coward, a con man and a criminal to being a hero. He even learned to be monogamous, which is completely against his nature and was considered antiquated by his society. That's a pretty big jump. He did it for the Doctor and admits freely to it. So yeah, I think that's very sweet. But they both went through Hell itself during that little journey, they both made terrible mistakes, and they're both paying for those mistakes. These are haunted men. I hope to see them heal a bit.

And if anyone is interested, I need a beta reader familiar with Dr Who and Lord of the Rings canon. Please be a grammar nazi.

Other than that, I'm praying this will break the horrible writer's block I've been fighting for…well…actually years now. Wish me luck.
